Hike Caldera de Taburiente

Hike to the Caldera de Taburiente: An Adventure in La Palma’s Natural Wonder

Discover one of the world’s most impressive natural phenomena – the Caldera de Taburiente. With a diameter of about 9 kilometers and a depth of nearly 2,000 meters, this erosion crater is a unique geological marvel located in the heart of La Palma. This hike takes you through fragrant pine forests, along riverbeds, and into the mysterious “Ravine of Fear.”

Through the Fragrant Pine Forest to the River

Our adventure begins in Los Brecitos at an altitude of 1,030 meters. Here, we start the descent on a gentle, slightly sloping forest path. The trail leads us through the picturesque pine forest, which, with its fresh scent and tranquil atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop to begin the hike.

Unique Erosion Crater

The Caldera de Taburiente is one of the largest erosion craters in the world. Its impressive size and depth tell the story of millions of years of geological processes. As we hike through the Ravine of Fear, we follow in the footsteps of King Tanausú, the last leader of the indigenous people of La Palma, who once lived in this region.

Cascada de Colores – The Colorful Waterfall

Once we reach the Taburiente River, the path continues to the Cascada de Colores, a colorful waterfall that shimmers in vibrant yellow and red hues due to mineral deposits. Here, you have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. If you’re up for it, be sure to bring swimwear, water shoes, and a towel to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.
