Your journey begins at the Tourism Office El Paso Center, where you’ll meet your guide. From here, you’ll travel to the restricted area known as Llano de Jable. The hike takes you through layers of ash and newly sprouting burnt pine forest, offering a unique glimpse into the most recent volcanic activity.

The hike begins at the oldest historically documented volcano in La Palma and leads you over thick layers of ash from the 2021 Cumbre Vieja eruption. As you approach the new crater of the Tajogaite volcano, you’ll gain a perspective previously reserved for volcanologists. The guide will share vivid stories and insights about the eruption’s impact on La Palma and the transformation of the landscape.
What to Expect
- New Perspectives: View the hidden backside of the volcano and the dramatic lava flows from above. This area offers a unique vantage point that is not available to the general public.

- Safety: Do not leave the designated path or take volcanic material with you. The excursion monitors volcanic gases continuously to ensure safety.
- Health Advisory: This tour is not suitable for individuals with respiratory problems.
